it's true that flawless makeup brings a certain emotional intensity to the surface – a kind of confidence-boosting kick that buoys the spirits. with strong yet simple statements in mind, victoria baron, Chanel's newly appointed spokesperson, shares three favourite looks inspired by the runway and interpreted for real-way glamour

  1.

"The question l’m often asked is how best to create flawless beauty looks in a hurry,” says the Sydney-based makeup artist, Victoria Baron, one of 20 new talents recently chosen to represent and work with the house of Chanel. “In reality, women don't have the time to spend an hour doing their makeup, generally it’s five minutes at best, so as a rule I recommend not being too fussy with trying to get everything you have onto your face. Our eyes are naturally drawn to a colour or a feature, so when in a hurry I'd choose to do a lip or a lash or an eye line – but do it well."

THE BOLD LIP: (main image, top) More uplifting than newly-lacquered nails, the drama lip wins out. Baron says: “I use a lip-liner to create the shape and base for the lipstick and then apply the majority of the gloss to the centre of the mouth in order to add dimension. I also like to add a wash of colour to enhance the eye, just on the top lids.”

LE DISCO: (above) About 4pm on a weekday afternoon, an irresistible compulsion to leave your desk, tell the boss you're running errands, throw on something magnetic and test-drive heavy-metal eyes. Baron says, “The trick to a dramatic eye is blending and more blending. The 4 Ombres Shadows are incredibly easy to blend with minimal fall out. If you know you’re going to be using a lot of shadow l like to do the foundation afterwards so you can be as messy as you like and it's easy to clean up.”

THE DAILY FLASH: (above) Barons says: "Colour is something that can scare a lot of women but it's worth experimenting. I use a long-lasting eyeliner in Bleu Exquis and Jade. Apply it close to the lash line for a touch of colour with out getting too extreme, then focus on your skin – there is something really powerful about a woman that wears makeup that consists simply of clean fresh skin; it's vulnerable and strong all in one go. Putting a whole mask of foundation on in a hurry means you lose the dimension in your face and you will have to contour it back in. Instead treat your face like a canvas, try to find the areas of the skin that are red or blue dull and work on those. This creates a flawless, barely-there appearance. Also make sure you perfect your skincare routine and wear sunscreen everyday."

On eyes: Chanel Le Stylo Yeux WP in Jade and Bleu Exquise. Face: Les Beiges Healthy Glow Fluid. Lips: Lèvres Scintillantes in Futile. Anna, pictured with her son Banjo, wears Chanel cashmere top.

THE ESSENTIALS: Prim, proper, sexy, sweet – fashion's iconic quilt-and-gilt bag stows a multitude of cool. Baron says: "Look for products that are multi-use with palettes that allow for options. This way your makeup kit is small in your bag but will work for different occasions."
