PORTER Fall editorial 2017
Photographer CASS BIRD Stylist ALEX WHITE
Former Victoria's Secrets model, Cameron Russell likes to challenge her industry's codes and defy model stereotypes with her outspoken views – she delivered one of the most watched TED Talks of all time: ‘Looks aren’t everything. Believe me, I’m a model’ in 2012, and was named Humanitarian Model of the Year in 2015. The latest Fall edition of Porter magazine celebrates that confidence with a gorgeous new editorial captured by photographer Cass Bird in the Russell's home town of New York City. Here, the 30-year-old all-American model talks candidly about her career and how social media has, in some instances, empowered models particularly when it comes to reporting exploitation. Russell graduated from Columbia with a degree in economics and political science and has always wanted to be President of the United States, she is also currently writing a tell-all book about her industry having just finished her first draft. Interviewer Carolynn Kormann writes: "Russell knows she is a paradox. She makes clear that she enjoys her modeling career these days and feels more powerful than she ever did before. And yet she continues to criticise the industry that she's cashing out on. In some ways, she is the quintessential millennial."
