Most know Joshua Yeldham as the award-winning artist whose earthy drawings, sculptures and carved paintings conjure a deep spiritual connection to the Australian land, and have earned him accolades for their haunting narratives on solitude and freedom. But to his 10-year-old daughter Indigo, he is simply Dad.

This month, to coincide with Yeldham's latest exhibition at Manly Art Gallery & Museum, the father of two will launch a poignant new book, Surrender: A Journal For My Daughter, which chronicles his life and work in intimate detail. It's a touching testament to the artist's devotion and inspiration, and highlights Yeldham’s creative journey through the Pittwater and the Hawkesbury River regions he has explored since childhood.

In the book, Yeldham writes: “I have made this journal for you my daughter.
It is a book about movement and how it feeds your imagination.
As we turn the pages we will learn to fly over ourselves and
touch the wilderness inside our hearts.
We will find our true fingerprint and be wondrous in our mistakes,
as everything we create shall liberate us from fear.
Right now, here in this timeless precious moment.”

Joshua Yeldham: Surrender runs from 19 September to 2 November at the Manly Art Gallery & Museum, West Esplanade, Manly, New South Wales. The exhibition will be opened by Australian actor Richard Roxburgh at 6pm on Friday 19 September. The artist's book, Surrender: A Journal For My Daughter, will also be available at Arthouse Gallery, 66 McLachlan Avenue, Rushcutters Bay, New South Wales.
