oh, baby! at the recent haute couture shows in paris, maternity dressing became a prominent (and seriously chic) subplotWhen Karl Lagerfeld closed his recent Chanel winter '14/'15 couture presentation with a pregnant bride – the luminous New Zealand model Ashleigh Good dressed in a dramatic white neoprene empire gown and floor-length cape embroidered entirely with gilt curls – it was clear that a blooming belly was the house’s statement of sorts, perhaps on love and also on the oftentimes outmoded approach to maternity wear. |
As if by osmosis, the fashion set seemed to be in tune with the idea; a number of powerful pregnancy looks stole the attention in the front row: from System magazine Editor Elizabeth von Guttman and Russian Tatler’s Fashion Director Anya Ziourova to the actress Rosamund Pike, all gloriously with-child and overtly in style.
