THE GOURMAND: JOANNA COOPER
Her motherhood motto: Breathe deeply and enjoy the moment. Her dream-ticket item: A Saint Laurent tuxedo jumpsuit (from Net-A-Porter.com). Her favourite book: The Gift Of Rain by Tan Twan Eng, it’s so beautifully written, evocative and poetic or The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge, M.D. Her top beauty item: It would have to be my Lancôme Juicy Tube, in Cerise (no. 15). I take it everywhere with me, I’m addicted. Her favourite flower: Peonies, they’re magnificent and remind me of my Chinese Amah. Her secret pick me up: A handful of raw cacao nibs, they make me happy and put a spring in my step. A favourite artwork: Having been in Melbourne recently, I was mesmerised by Arthur Boyd’s Shaolhaven series. They are so vivid, you can feel the heat, dryness and stillness of the air only to be broken by the screech of a black cockatoo. Her guilty pleasure: Relishing in complete and utter silence, I love it. A family ritual she loves most: Bedtime – saying good-night to all my children, I feel such love, joy, awe and wonderment that my husband and I have created these curious little people. What her children have taught her: The true meaning of unconditional love. On her playlist: At the moment I'm obsessed with opera, especially Lakme’s Flower Duet sung by Dame Joan Sutherland. A Sunday matinee movie: I would only watch a Sunday movie if it was bleak and wet outside. It would be either Great Expectations, Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre. Dream destination: Greece staying at Amanzoe.
