ritish designer Jasper Conran has opened his first hotel in the heart of the Medina in Marrakech, and it's a gorgeous tribute to art, culture and the magic of Morocco. The historic 19th Century Riad, originally part of a Caidal palace, underwent a meticulous restoration carried out by local craftsmen using traditional materials and has been finished with antiques, textiles and art from Conran's own unique collection.
L'Hôtel Marrakech's airy suites, which feature whitewashed walls and high zouak ceilings, overlook a tiled pool and courtyard garden planted with banana, orange and lemon trees, while the rooftop terrace takes in extraordinary views of the Atlas mountains and the city's skyline.
The hotel prides itself on its approach to serving delicious traditional Moroccan cooking – seasonal local produce is brought to the kitchen daily, with signature dishes including an array of salads, fresh vegetables, slow cooked tagines and exotic grilled plates.
Planted with orange, fig and olive trees, jasmine, bougainvillea, honeysuckle and geranium the roof terrace, below, is the perfect place to unwind and relax over a long breakfast served under the curtained pergola.
